Tallahassee Police Officers responded to a residence in the 1800 block of Portland Avenue at approximately 6:35 Thursday morning, January 1st, in reference to a person who had been shot.

The on-scene investigation indicated the man and woman who lived there had been involved in an argument.

It appears the male subject was accidentally shot in the shoulder by the female when she was attempting to kill herself, resulting in his non-life threatening injuries. No one else was injured.

The man was transported by EMS to the hospital and the woman was taken into protective custody under the Baker Act.

Cops: Man showed teen girls porn

STRATFORD — A Fairfield man and two 14-year-old girls were found in a Honeyspot Motor Inn room watching a pornographic movie early Wednesday, police said. Harry Frostick, 19, of Woodcrest Road, Fairfield, was charged with two counts of risk of injury to a minor.

Someone complained about a broken television in the room, police said, but hotel workers who heard the sound of a movie went to check. Someone in the room then quickly shut off the TV.

Frostick and the girls were taken from the room, and the girls were turned over to their parents. They allegedly had told their parents they were sleeping at each other’s houses, police said.

Frostick’s bond and court date were unavailable Wednesday.

State trooper fired after drunken high-speed chase

A trooper was fired today by the Maryland State Police after he was arrested on charges of kidnapping a man in his marked cruiser at a fast-food drive-through, then leading Baltimore County police on a drunken high-speed chase.

The incident unfolded about 2:30 a.m. Saturday at a Taco Bell restaurant at Loch Raven Boulevard and Taylor Avenue in Towson. Witnesses told county police officers that a trooper in plainclothes activated his siren and began yelling at people in the drive-through to “get the [expletive] out of the way,” according to police charging documents.

The trooper, Bruce Anthony Wrzosek, 22, of the 2500 block of Taylor Ave., assaulted several people in a car and then forced one of them, a 20-year-old man, into his cruiser without handcuffs, according to charging documents.

Just as Wrzosek was getting into his cruiser, a county officer arrived and asked him to park his vehicle, but Wrzosek sped away, charging documents say.

After a brief high-speed chase during which, according to charging documents, the trooper used his lights and sirens to speed through at least one red light, he stopped the vehicle and was arrested by Baltimore County police after failing a field sobriety test. His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.20 — more than double the state’s legal limit of 0.08 for driving under the influence, according to charging documents.

It’s a confession no passenger wants to hear a pilot make over the cabin intercom:

But as Britain’s Metro tells us, that is exactly what happened yesterday morning during a flight from Wales to Charles de Gaulle airport, where it was foggy.

Passenger Cassandra Grant, who was headed to Paris for a job interview, explains:

“Twenty minutes outside Paris, the captain said, ‘Unfortunately, I’m not qualified to land the plane in Paris. They are asking for a level two qualification and I only have a level five. We’ll have to fly back.’”

The Flybe flight returned to Cardiff International, where it had taken off three hours late because of bad weather.

The airline defended the unidentified pilot’s actions.

“He has not yet completed the requisite low-visibility training to complete a landing in conditions such as the dense fog experienced in Paris Charles de Gaulle. At no point was passenger safety compromised,” a spokeswoman said.

Britain’s Civil Aviation Authority called the incident “quite unusual but probably not unheard of.”

In a bid to increase energy efficiency, a town in western Sweden is planning to connect the local crematorium to its district heating system.

“To start with we’re planning on heating our own facilities, but hopefully we can connect to the district heating network in the future,” said Halmstad cemetery administrator Lennart Andersson to the Aftonbladet newspaper.

Andersson explained that the idea came up after a recent environmental review of the crematorium concluded that new ovens would be needed for the facility to reach certain benchmarks.

“After all this talk about the environment we realized we should take advantage of the heat created during cremation,” he said.

Andersson hopes the cemetery’s plans don’t offend anyone, insisting the effort is being undertaking strictly on the basis of its environmental benefits.

“There won’t be anything different about the ashes,” he said.

The city hopes to have its new energy source up and running by 2010.

One of South Korea’s best-known actresses, Ok So-ri, has been given a suspended prison sentence of eight months for adultery.

She admitted the offence and the court suspended the sentence for two years.

The trial took place after Ms Ok failed to get the constitutional court to overturn the strict law that makes adultery a criminal offence.

In her petition she said the law was an infringement of human rights and amounted to revenge.

According to the BBC correspondent in Seoul, John Sudworth, the scandal has kept South Korea’s tabloid newspapers and internet chatrooms buzzing for months.

South Korea is one of the few remaining non-Muslim countries where adultery remains a criminal offense.

A person found guilty of adultery can be jailed for up to two years.

More than 1,000 people are charged each year, although, as in this case, very few are actually sent to jail.

BEAUMONT, Texas  —  Texas police responding to a store’s burglar alarm found a less-than-hardened criminal inside: He was 4, and playing with the toys.

Detective Randy Stevens says the child apparently unlocked a door at his nearby home, got out, then crossed a street to reach the discount store.

Store surveillance video shows the unidentified boy trying one of the front doors to a Family Dollar store about 3 a.m. Monday, only to find it locked.

But the second door was unlocked and the child went inside.

That triggered the silent alarm.

“When the officers got there, he was showing them his toys,” said Officer Crystal Holmes.

Child Protective Services says the boy will be allowed to stay with extended relatives while they review the incident.
